Making Criminals PAY for Crime!?!?
The saying once was.. "Crime doesn't pay". But it seems these days as if it DOES!! There have been numerous stories of people out on bail, arrested AGAIN for the same crime, reason being they were making money to pay for the FIRST arrests defense! Then we have the current issue here in Gasconade County.... no jail, HIGH costs of renting jail space elsewhere.
One simple question.. Why do WE pay to keep these people in jail??? WE didn't commit any crimes! Why don't we make THEM pay!! THAT is the question!! I'd like to see proposed a system of CHARGING these guys for the cost to house them. In the case of a mistaken arrest/identity of course no charge. But, if you ARE convicted, or the arrest was a JUST one.... you will be billed for the FULL amount it costs to house you. Drug laws had in them ASSET FORFEITURE clauses..... maybe these need to be explored. The County is in tough,tight financial shape. The County Government is tightening up it's purse strings.... perhaps it's time we make those who "cost us money for no good reason on our part" pay THEIR part. Maybe, if it was made so "Crime DOESN'T Pay" in Gasconade County.... these type of people would go somewhere else!!
